Independence Day Challenge 2009
July 3rd at Autobahn, Joliet, IL The Chicago Alfa Romeo Owners Club invites you to participate in the 2009 CAROC Independence Day Challenge at Autobahn Circuit Joliet on Friday, July 3rd. Come enjoy the natural setting on the challenging south course and have lots of motor sports fun on an extended Holiday weekend.
Autobahn is a track designed to be safe as well as fun to drive, and somewhat forgiving of driver errors. Mike Besic has termed it a more "technical" track meaning that the corners have some complexity requiring better driver analysis to identify the best and fastest line through a corner. Located near Joliet, it is close to our membership base, so it is easily accessed from the Chicago area. With facilities roughly five years old, it is a new facility with a good track surface and interest for many in the Chicago area. Please mention our event to anyone you know who might be interested in Open Lapping or Touring. We welcome and enjoy seeing a diversity of cars on-track.
Registration and tech inspection will begin at 7AM. We will be sending out the first practice group at 8:45AM.
The format will be open lapping by group in the morning and afternoon. Touring will be at noon and will run for approximately one hour.
All lapping sessions will be timed using AMB transponders (included in the price). This allows us to provide many hours of track time for each participant. For safety reasons, no passing in corners.
On track activities will wrap up at 5PM.
Those that show up to volunteer to work all day as corner workers are given prizes at the end of the day and free Touring. As a corner worker, you get to be "up close and personal" at a corner. By seeing how other drivers attack a corner, you obtain insight into the best way to drive that corner thus improving your own enjoyment of the track experience. Performing the duties of a corner worker is really quite easy, and I have found it to be very enjoyable over the many years that I volunteered. Driving the track during Touring for free just makes it a superb experience. Sandy GaNun will be opening the door for volunteers roughly one month prior to each event. You may contact Sandy at (847) 234-0733.
We "sold-out" Road America a week prior to the 2008 event and turned prospective participants away, so get your paid registrations in promptly. Please contact Wayne Seely at (815) 331-0404 or Don Brubaker at (847) 550-8915 weekdays for more information.
