2008 Alfa Romeo National ConventionConvention DiningThe Oak Brook Hills Marriott offers a wide range of options for dining and drinks, including room service, and the quality of the food is excellent. We’d like to take a moment to introduce you to the on-site events catered for us by the hotel.
Wednesday Evening Welcome PartyWhether you’re looking to unwind after the board meeting, or you’ve just arrived for your stay, come join us for a party to kick off the convention in fine style. Our reception will be in the lobby lounge, which has an intimate but spacious split level layout with full length glass windows giving a pleasant view of the golf course. We can spill out onto the patio adjacent to the golf course to enjoy the evening air. There will be a cash bar and the party is free to all, so we look forward to seeing you there! Saturday Night BanquetThe banquet is proving to be very popular, and promises to be one event you truly won’t want to miss. The menu was designed to reflects Chicago’s love of great food. Choose between two superb top-of-the-line entreés or vegetarian. For the meat lovers we have a full 8 oz. USDA prime filet mignon, succulent and flavorful – pan-seared and accompanied by a rich velvety red wine sauce. If seafood is more to your liking, we have an 8 oz. salmon filet, which will be french grilled to a moist and flakey perfection. A lovely fresh basil buerre-blanc sauce will accompany the salmon. One bite and it will feel like it simply melts in your mouth. If you crave something a little different, you may choose a vegetable Wellington of zucchini, squash, red and yellow peppers and portobello mushroom wrapped in puff pastry with roasted red pepper coulis. Sides of a luscious potato leek soufflé and sweet tender French cut baby carrots with haricots verts, will further enhance your entreé. A basket of fresh baked breads, a crisp salad of mixed greens and garden ripe vegetables will get you started, and to follow, a decadently scrumptious dessert – but that is a secret and there is only one way to find out what it is! John Tipler: Banquet Guest Speaker Englishman, John Tipler was first fired with Alfa Romeo enthusiasm by the sight and sound of blood-red GTAs battling with Lotus Cortinas at Snetterton in 1966. Since then, John has run a succession of Alfas including Giulia 1300Ti and 1750 saloons, two 1750 GTV Coupes, Alfa 75 Twin Spark Veloce and most recently a GTV6 which he raced in the UK Alfa Owners’ Club Championship of 1990.
Today, John is a freelance motoring journalist contributing to a number of magazines. John has written over twenty motoring books on Alfa Romeo, Caterham, Ferrari, Fiat Abarth, Jensen, Lotus, MG, Morgan, Triumph Motorcycles, TVR, Touring Car Racing and Formula One Decades. I personally own a few of his books, including: Alfa Romeo – GIULIA Coupe GT & GTA, The World’s Great AUTOMOBILE STYLISTS, RACING CARS Masterpieces of Engineering, ALFA ROMEO Legends, and of course the Foreword for Carlos Lepro’s Giulia – The first winning GTA by Bernardo D. Martinez MD. Sunday Awards BrunchYou can also join us for one last meal at the Awards Breakfast Sunday morning. We will be feasting on freshly baked breakfast breads and pastries, fresh seasonal fruit platter, thinly sliced smoked salmon, orange juice, fresh brewed coffees and Taylors of Harrogate teas. There is also a choice of a midwest frittata with Wisconsin cheddar, cremini mushrooms, ham and onions, served with herbed breakfast potatoes, or French toast made with Walnut Raisin Bread, Warm Maple Syrup, Baked Cinnamon Apple and Sausage Patties. Now we hope you are sufficiently convinced and hungry. After all the touring, racing and showing of cars you should be ready for a really great party. We will save you a place at our table!
