2008 Alfa Romeo National ConventionAutocrossThe Autocross event will take place on Friday morning in the parking lot at the Odeum Expo Center in Villa Park, about 7 miles and 15 minutes from the hotel. This is an excellent facility, with a large smooth lot which has been re-surfaced within the past two years. There are no light poles, storm drains, or major curbs to pose hazards for the competitors. Some photos of outdoor events using this lot can be found at the Odeum web site. The event will be similar in structure to the autocross at the 2007 convention in Detroit. We encourage you to review the rules in the National Competition Code prior to the event. Please bring a helmet as we may not be able to provide loaners. Three lines leading to the Start line will allow competitors with “hot” tires to immediately cycle back unto the circuit, while those with prior runs or awaiting their first run will be released on an “as available” basis. Our course will be designed to yield times of roughly 45 seconds with two cars on-course simultaneously. Please arrive early as we expect to begin putting cars on-course no later than 9:00 a.m. in order to finish by 1:00 p.m. Our focus throughout this event will be to have fun. We hope to allow as many as 5 runs each for up to 60 cars. A course map will be made available roughly two weeks prior, and participants will be allowed to walk the course the morning of the event prior to 8:30. Please note that registration is limited to Alfas only. |
